Apple Watch is the most popular smartwatch

However, lately, there are some issues with the Spotify application on Apple Watch. Recently, we covered the issue of not being able to download offline music on the Apple Watch. And unfortunately, there is also another issue.

Some users are reporting an issue with Spotify on Apple Watch not streaming when connected to AirPods or other Bluetooth headsets. The issue was first discovered in late June 2021, and to date, people are still facing it.

Several Apple Watch owners took their rants to Spotify Community forum and below are some of their complaints.

Streaming will not work on Spotify. Spotify app on watch will work only when on WiFi/otherwise connected to phone. I can control playback on phone and other local devices (Sky Q box/speakers). I do not have an option to play to my AirPods. My watch does not show up in my Device List in the settings menu on the iPhone app.

I recently bought an Apple watch SE cellular model with the intention of having Spotify on the go without my iphone however when I disconnect my iphone, the watch and the airpods dont pop up on the app. I therefore can’t play music when using my mobile data.

Spotify has acknowledged this issue, and the thread is labeled as “Under investigation” suggesting that Spotify is working on a fix. However, we are not sure when it will be fixed.

On the brighter side, one of those affected shared how they solved the issue with Spotify on Apple Watch not streaming when using AirPods. This may or may not work for you, so try it at your own risk.

1) Factory reset Apple watch. Set it up as a new watch, not from backup. Don’t install all your apps.
2) Uninstall and reinstall Spotify on iPhone. Open it and sign in.
3) Now install Spotify to your Apple watch using the Apple Watch’s built-in app store. Open Spotify on your watch. You will not be able to connect to any devices yet – the available devices will be blank.
4) Open Spotify on your phone. Verify this shows up as a device on your Apple watch BUT DONT CLICK ON IT YET.
5) Close Spotify on your phone and swipe it out of the recent apps so it’s fully closed.
6) Tell your Apple Watch to play Spotify from your Apple Watch (with Airpods connected)
