New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on July 09, 2021) follows:

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are growing ever so prevalent in today’s auto world, coming preinstalled on many new cars’ head units. And for good reason, as they help harness the power of these mobile operating systems while on the move.

As mentioned, many new cars come with these features preinstalled but also, third-party head units from Kenwood, Sony, Pioneer, and so on support this, further making it accessible to more users.

Android Auto’s deep integration with the Android operating system and Google’s awesome suite of apps is an added advantage to these systems.

However, these are only useful when they actually work. Which, unfortunately, isn’t always. We have a dedicated Android Auto bug tracker and you can check it out here for more.

Now, it is coming to light that there might be some other issues afflicting Android Auto users. According to them, Google Maps tends to get stuck at the ‘loading route’ screen on Android Auto.

Google Maps stuck at “loading route” for any location I choose on Android Auto. This is through Android Auto in my Chevrolet Impala (2018) Chevy MyLink. Using a Google pixel 5 with the latest updates as of this date.

Even as these users wait for a fix from Google, it is coming to light that there might be another issue to do with Google Assistant. According to users, Google Assistant fails to give location-based results.

When I voice search for something like “Gas station” it gives the closest results to my home regardless of where I am at the time. How do I fix this? I’m running AA on my Pixel 5A, connected via BT to a non-aa vehicle.

According to users, Google Assistant fails to give relevant results based on current location but instead, it resorts to give info related to the saved home address.

This issue has been reported by users of Android Auto but the reports have also been coming from users on their Android devices in cars that aren’t Android Auto compatible.

This issue has been brought to the attention of Google as well and a community specialist has also been quoted saying the issue has been forwarded to the relevant teams.

We shall continue to keep an eye on these issues and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to our dedicated Android Auto tracker for more.
