Google Voice is basically a telephone service that provides voice and text messaging, voicemail and call forwarding services, as well as US and international call termination for those with Google accounts in the US.

And as for other locations, the service is available as part of Google Workspace. Supported countries for this include Canada, Denmark, France, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.

It works on smartphones and computers, and syncs across devices so one can use the app in the office, at home, or on the go.

Upon registering for the service for the first time, you will be allowed to choose a US telephone number from available numbers in selected area codes, free of charge to each account.

While the app is fairly popular on Android with over 10 million installs, its speed and simplicity has also led to plenty of downloads on iOS as well.

But as always, an app has to be updated with new features to be kept fresh with the evergrowing and everchanging demands of the users as well as to keep it free from bugs and issues.

There may also be instances where major changes to an app lead to older versions being rendered incompatible. And this is exactly what appears to have happened to the Google Voice app on iOS.

An official post by a Google Employee on the Google Voice Help forums announces that versions below 21.24 will not be working on iOS after September 28.

A reason for this was not provided but one can easily tell that it’s just obsolescence in action.

The solution for this is rather simple. All you got to do is open the iOS App Store on your Apple device, search for “Google Voice”, and tap update to avoid instances of the app not working later this month.

Of course, the latest version of the app does not suffer from any drawback as such and the notifications asking you to update to the latest version of Google Voice will no longer appear.
