Sonos is undoubtedly one of the best choices when you are looking for a multi-room audio system.

Their products are renowned for audio quality paired with a great user experience. The Sonos Roam is the company’s portable smart speaker.

It is completely waterproof, meaning you can place it in your bathroom or take it to a pool party without any worries.

Sonos claims that the Roam will provide around 10 hours of audio playback and 10 days of battery backup when in standby mode.

But reports suggest otherwise. Several users on the Sonos community forum are complaining that the Sonos Roam suffers from a serious battery drain issue when in standby mode.

Roam users say that their battery drains at a rapid pace and lasts only a day or two before giving up.

Same issue. Only used it a couple of times. Only played music for a couple of hours. Fully charged it, thought it was switched off, came to use it a few days later and it was completely dead. Takes ages to come back to life.

Also think it is really mean that it doesn’t come with a charging plug – finding one with the correct charge rate is virtually impossible. And it’s not made very clear that a standard USB will not charge this device. Very disappointed – I think it might be going back…

Same here. The battery drain is horrible. While using it at mid volume it loses about 10% per hour. When we close the app and stop streaming it’ll be completely dead by next morning. I just pulled a $50 Oontz speaker out of the drawer that hasn’t been used in months and it’s at 100% and will easily last several days of multi hour listening sessions before needing a charge. What’s the return policy on the Roam?(Source)

While turning off the speaker entirely increases it by some days, but even then the battery does not last 10 days as advertised.

Users are frustrated over Sonos’ lack of response on the matter. Currently, the only way to use the Sonos Roam is by charging it with a USB C cable when using the portable speaker.

We hope Sonos acknowledges the Roam battery drain issue and fixes it via a software update if possible.
