New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 22, 2021) follows:

Our connected homes keep growing ever more sophisticated with the addition of new products, be it smart bulbs, smart TVs, smart speakers, and even smart cameras, a segment that is slowly but surely picking up pace.

In 2014, we saw Google acquiring Nest and since then, Google has seemingly been doubling down on smart home products, all while tightly integrating the experience with Google Home.

However, these products haven’t been without their fair share of issues. Not too long ago, we looked at an issue where Google Home devices were not alerting when the Nest doorbell rang. More on that here.

Today, it is coming to light that the Nest camera does have yet another bug. According to users, the Nest Cam stream interrupts playback on other Google Home-connected devices.

According to affected users, whenever they play their nest cam video stream, their other devices would stop playing. This means that the GHT3 stream cannot run concurrently with any other media playback.

Interestingly, as soon as affected users switch from the Nest cam feed, everything resumes playback. This can be annoying when a user just needs to quickly look at the camera feed.

It is now coming to light that this issue is known to Google. In addition, the company is asking affected users to submit feedback using their Nest Hub to help the company with its investigations.

While our team is aware of this, we’d suggest turning on device reporting, then submit a feedback report via voice command using your Nest Hub

However, the company is shying away from giving any form of ETAs for a possible fix. Instead, users are asked to keep following up on this issue.

We too shall be following this and update as and when we get more info so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb to be first to know when the issue is addressed.

Update (August 12)

IST 02:50 pm: In an alleged conversation between one of the affected users and Made by Google’s Twitter handle, it is revealed that a fix could be coming in 4-6 weeks.

NOTE: We have these and many more Google Home stories in our dedicated Google section so check it out for more.
