The Ascent was released just a few days back on 29 July 2021 and is a cyberpunk-themed action role-playing video game developed by Swedish indie game studio Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital.
Its creator is a tiny yet substantial team of just 11 people and has been developed using Unreal Engine 4. You can call it a Microsoft-exclusive title since it’s available on Windows and Xbox only.
The game has one of the liveliest open-world environments you can experience on any videogame.
The megacity it is set in is always bustling with life – both organic and inorganic – and there’s always plenty to explore.
Unfortunately, even with all of its amazing stuff, there is one annoying bug that threatens to mess up the overall experience.
Skins disappear, or randomly become available and then disappear again (weapon and shirt). Once a weapon skin is applied it seams to persist on weapon, though if I pick up a new one and it actually displays at the gunsmith, selecting the new one removes the chance to revert.

Game is great and amazing. Just one problem, my weapon skins keep on disappearing? I had collected a big bunch but when I sold some extra weapons at the vendor they all disappeared. Is this a known bug? Are there any fixes?

Just a few days following launch and there have already been several complaints from The Ascent players saying that acquired weapon and shirt skins keep disappearing.
This happens whenever the game is restarted or upon quitting the game. All you get upon heading to Gun Smith > Weapon Skins now are two choices – “Default” and whatever the last looted weapon skin was.
The issue doesn’t seem to happen every single time as a few players have stated that they face it intermittently – the skins disappear and randomly become available again only to vanish again a while later.
We are yet to come across any official acknowledgment from Neon Giant but considering that the bug is rather crucial, it should be fixed soon enough.
In the meantime, you can try equipping your favorite skin before quitting the game as equipped skins stay on your gun even after the game is restarted, until you change it.
Unfortunately, nothing can be done for all your earned unequipped weapon and shirt skins on The Ascent that keep disappearing at the moment so just hang on.
