New updates are being added at the bottom of this history……

Original story (published on July 10, 2021), follows:

Back in May, an update was pushed to Apex Legends that added a new leaver penalty system to punish players that left in the middle of Arena games.

The penalty is such that leavers get awarded a matchmaking delay of around 10 minutes during which they cannot join any other Arena game.

However, Apex is kind enough to throw a warning for those who are unaware pop up to let them know about what’s in store if they quit.

But just a couple of days following this implementation, Respawn had to disable the Arena leaver penalty system for throwing unfair punishments in various scenarios. One of these was penalizing players for leaving matches that weren’t even full.

That’s all a thing of the past now though as a couple of months later, Apex Legends has embraced the penalty system. However, issues associated with it have are still not giving any respite.

Players have been long complaining about bad server connections on Apex Legends resulting not only in choppy movement but also random disconnects.

Got an abandonment penalty for no reason in arenas this is the second time now will this ever be fixed? Also got ddosed out of an arenas match prior to the penalty when is it going to be fixed?

The problem doesn’t end there though. You see, players that are booted out of a match due to issues with the server, are awarded a penalty that should, by all means, be limited to those who deliberately quit live matches.

Thus, players frustrated from the lost ranked points also have to wait for several minutes to be able to join another match – a pointless punishment for those who never deserved it.

Thankfully, EA has now acknowledged the penalty issue on Apex Legends saying that they’re are aware of connection issues plaguing the game recently.

The connection issues in question include random mid-game kicks to the lobby, server problems, and an issue that prevents players from joining matches.

Sure, the penalty issue hasn’t really been acknowledged specifically, but it shouldn’t happen again if Apex actually fixes the server issues for good.

Update 1 (January 04, 2022)

12:03 pm (IST): Many months after the first reports, unfortunately the reports on the same problems continue. This includes disconnections, unfair abandonment penalties, lag, and high ping.

Also, there doesn’t seem to be a fix in sight for these issues. Therefore, the affected players only have to keep waiting for it (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8).
