New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 1, 2021) follows:

Android 12 promises a lot of changes to an otherwise widely stable mobile operating system. Material You, redesigned lock screen, yet another permission manager overhaul, faster performance among many others are just a few things to expect.

Already, we’ve seen Beta builds of this next version of Android and the adventurous users are already rocking these preliminary builds on their eligible devices.

Perhaps one of the more dramatic UI redesigns on Android 12 is that to the Quick Settings menu. Gone are the traditional applets, in come cards. These toggle cards offer users a larger target area and more importantly, more functionality.

Understandably, these changes are reportedly throwing new users off as now, Google Pixel users on Android 12 beta 2 say they’re unable to toggle Wi-Fi on/off from Quick Settings because that now shows nearby Wi-Fi networks instead.

Already, there are third-party tweaks seeking to fix this issue but that doesn’t have to be the case. Now, a section of users of Pixel devices running Android 12 Beta builds are strongly coming out to voice their concerns about this ‘Internet’ quick setting toggle.

See, following the update to Android 12 Beta 2.1 build, cellular data and WiFi settings are grouped together under ‘Internet’. This means that users now need to sort through the list of available Wi-Fi networks just to switch it off, or jump through similar hoops to toggle cellular data. A change that isn’t sitting well with users.

Yes. Totally agree. Updated my device as soon as it became available and I’m still not used to switching WiFi and mobile data on. It’s long-winded and it’s such a bad move. I have given my feedback. Hopefully, they revert to the old way.

I didn’t mind it until they removed the WiFi toggle in beta 2.1. Now you need to enter settings to turn off Wifi, super annoying.

While these users are going nuts trying to figure out how this new toggle works, some users have already managed to get it working and while it is different and relatively unintuitive, it works.

However messed up these new toggles might appear, they’re all a part of change. Understandably, these Android quick toggles have been relatively similar over the past couple versions of Android and this new interactive toggle seems to be causing people issues.

Granted, this is a beta build and there’s still a long way to go before Android 12 is ready for primetime but we’d still like to get your thoughts.

Update (December 07)

Google is pushing out improvements for the internet tile in Quick Settings on Android 12 in the December 2021 update to Pixel devices.

Update (December 14)

In case you aren’t a fan of the new Internet toggle in Android 12, Mishaal Rahman has shared a nifty workaround to replace that with dedicated Wi-Fi and mobile data toggles in the notification panel. Check it out below:

FYI: If you want to replace the Internet panel with the WiFi and mobile data Quick Settings tiles, run the following two commands in ADB shell:

settings put global settings_provider_model false

settings put secure sysui_qs_tiles “wifi, cell,$(settings get secure sysui_qs_tiles)”
