Oppo ColorOS 12 (Android 12) update internal testing has allegedly begun
Oppo on May 19 launched Android 12 Beta 1 for its flagship from 2021 – Find X3 Pro. The release made it one of the first companies to offer Android 12 for its devices other than Google, joining the likes of Xiaomi and Asus.
Not much is known about ColorOS 12 at the moment. Heck, Oppo hasn’t even officially called the upcoming version of the Android skin by that name ever.
However, the company has given hints about what to expect with a blog post. Since Android 12 focuses plenty on UI updates and enhanced security and privacy, Oppo will be adapting ColorOS to the same as well.
This will be done by adding even more personalization features, both in terms of UI and UX. Along with this, ColorOS 12 will be giving more control and transparency regarding data security and privacy than ever.
Oppo had also claimed that the Android 12 Beta 1 for the Find X3 Pro also improves performance so one can expect the same for other eligible devices as well.
Other new stuff includes a feature to give only their approximate location to apps, a quick setting toggle to block camera and microphone use, and an option to hibernate inactive applications that have not been used for over 90 days.
Apart from all of the above, there hasn’t been any other information available regarding Oppo’s upcoming Android skin update. Or at least until now.
Reliable leakster ‘Digital Chat Room’ on Weibo revealed today that ColorOS 12 is indeed in the works and has already hit the internal testing stage.
The project codename seems to be ‘fluorite’ although we doubt that’s what it actually is called considering that the Weibo post has been translated from Chinese.
Android 12 is set to achieve platform stability at Beta 4 in August 2021 and the final version will likely land in September or October.
Based on this, one can expect the first releases of ColorOS 12 to pop up around a month or two after Android 12 stable goes live.
Obviously, the flagship devices – most likely the Oppo Find X3 Pro – will bag ColorOS 12 first followed by other high-end offerings.
We have drafted a list of Oppo devices likely to get the ColorOS 12 update and you are free to check if your model is present there or not.
