Google Meet recently went through a major UI overhaul. The changes aim to simplify both the desktop and laptop versions of the video conferencing service and make more room for content, video feeds, and make controls more user-friendly.

These include the addition of new visibility options where you can choose your video to display as a tile, a grid, or a floating picture.

You also finally get an option to pin the presenter along with multiple other users for a seamless presentation experience.

Other changes include built-in auto exposure so that the presenter is always visible properly under any lighting conditions and an auto zoom feature that will help zoom in and position you squarely in front of the camera.

However, the new Google Meet UI hasn’t been rolled out for all and users have been inquiring about its status and when they’ll be getting it.

As it stands, the UI is being seeded in stages. It started with the Rapid Release Domain on May 24 and is now being rolled out for the Scheduled Release Domain from June 1 onwards.

If you wish to try out the new UI as soon as possible then you can try switching your domain over to the Rapid release one. Do keep in mind that an admin account is required for it.

1. Sign in to your Google Admin console using admin account.
2. Go to Account settings and then Preferences.
3. In the Release preferences section, click New features.
4. Select Rapid release or Scheduled release and save changes.

But for the regular users, there isn’t much that can be done to speed up the rollout process.

Still, the new Google Meet UI shouldn’t take long to reach you as it has now already been made available to 50% of the Meet end users and 50% of the rapid release Workspace domains.

Google Meet new UI known bugs and issues

Given these initial rollout stages, the new Google Meet UI is obviously fairly new. Hence, the existence of bugs was only inevitable. Some of the known and officially acknowledged ones have been given below:

1. Missing video tile or the captions being cut off
2. Mirroring effect when screen sharing
3. Flickering on the presented content on Windows
4. Blue outline is occasionally on a non-speaking participant

You can access the workarounds for these through this official support article.
