New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on May 27, 2021) follows:

OnePlus 9 series devices offer all the specs that are expected from a flagship and the case was same with the OnePlus 8 series.

Devices like the OnePlus 8 Pro, 9, and 9 Pro come with benchmark hardware and features like wireless charging.

While the OnePlus 8 and 8T are from the same segment, they lack support for wireless charging.

However, the changelog of the latest May OxygenOS 11 update for the OnePlus 8 and 8T tells a different story altogether.

It seems that the update 11.0.6.6 offers wireless charging improvements even though both devices lack support for the same.

Found this funny as Oneplus’ development team can’t even change description according to device (OP8 IN)

It is evident that this is a common update changelog for the OnePlus 8/8T and OnePlus 8 Pro. What is noteworthy is that the OEM did not even bother to remove the said improvement point for the devices that do not have wireless charging support.

While it might not appear as a serious fault at the OEM’s part, it does show their attitude towards software updates and quality.

Also, this might be confusing for those who are not technically sound which further puts OnePlus in a bad light.

The OEM was one of the fastest to deliver system updates once but that and the quality of its software updates has changed over time.

It is unclear whether the switch to ColorOS in China is at play here or not but the OEM does appear to be losing its edge slowly.

OnePlus has now made corrections to the update announcement posts on the OnePlus Community. However, those who have already received the update on their OnePlus 8/8T are either pointing out the fault in the changelog or confused because of it.

Hopefully, the OEM starts taking matters like these seriously as they affect users and the user experience.

That said, we will be back with more details as and when new information becomes available so stay tuned.

Update 1 (June 11)

IST 07:15 pm: It seems OnePlus repeated a similar mistake with the OnePlus 7/7T Series Stable OxygenOS 11 Survey where questions about the Insight and Canvas AOD features were asked. The said devices still do not support these features on the stable channel.
