Peacock TV now supports 5.1 surround sound on Android TV, as per some user reports
Peacock is a streaming service from Comcast-owned NBCUniversal and is a great choice for those looking around to experiment with services other than Netflix, Hulu, and the like.
Sure it has that typical tiled interface that most users that have used other streaming services may already be accustomed to, but Peacock is unique in its own way.
This is because it offers a completely free version rich with live news and sports channels combined with a large catalog of TV shows and movies.
Of course, offering a free version means that the streaming service makes up for the lost revenue through other ways – inclusion of ads. Moreover, several shows under the free tier have only a couple of seasons unlocked.
Still, Peacock’s more premium tier, which is suitably called Peacock Premium, isn’t exactly the kind that will blow a hole in your pocket. At just $5 per month, it is a pretty bang for the buck pick.
However, there is a couple of stuff the omission of which has been bothering both free and premium users alike. Firstly, the Peacock app doesn’t support AirPlay on both iPhone and iPad.
And secondly, the streaming service’s Android TV app doesn’t support 5.1 surround sound. For the uninitiated, a surround sound system that uses five audio channels plus a subwoofer channel is known to support 5.1 sound.
This config is widely used in home theater systems and offers some of the most immersive and directional audio experiences around.
Peacock on Android TV users have been long awaiting support for the audio format. Thankfully, it now seems that the wait has finally come to an end.
A few users have reported that 5.1 surround sound popped up randomly when they tried to play a random supported movie/show on Peacock TV.
Oddly, the streaming service hasn’t really made any official announcement regarding the fresh support for 5.1 surround sound.
The likely reason for this could be that the feature is currently still under the testing phase and still awaits a wider rollout.
There doesn’t seem to be any toggle to magically turn on 5.1 surround sound on Peacock TV currently so all you got to do now is wait. In time, if the purported testing is satisfactory, the feature should be made available for all to enjoy.
