Apple’s smart speaker, the HomePod, came out in 2018 and is now eligible for the iOS 14.5 update.
However, users of the HomePod and HomePod Mini have been facing an issue with the latest iOS update.
As per recent reports, users are unable to download the iOS 14.5 update on their Apple HomePod.
While the Home updates section show that all the accessories are up-to-date, but users are saying that their Apple HomePod is still on iOS 14.4.
It is unclear what is causing this issue but this is not the only problem that users are facing.
Home settings says HomePods are up to date, but they are all still on 14.4. Was the update pulled?
Several reports also suggest that their smart speakers are stuck on configuring the latest iOS update.
Also, the HomePod update status stays on Downloading for hours, as per some user reports.
Since Apple has not yet acknowledged these issues, users have found a couple of workarounds on their own.
after the update to 14.5 my homepod mini is configuring since hours. i reseted it. but again in the home app it‘s configuring since hours.
One of my minis updated ok. The other has been stuck downloading for an hour. I cycled the power and started again, same thing. Sigh. I want to love you HomePod mini. But you make it so hard.
According to a Reddit user, individually enabling the Soundcheck option in the HomePod settings may fix the said issues.
Apart from that, another Reddit user has said that changing the Siri voice in the HomePod settings might also work.
The user further explained that changing the Siri voice will download new voice models further triggering the iOS 14.5 update to appear for the device.
I found this on accident. Go into each HomePods settings, and enable soundcheck. Wait a couple seconds and the update will be available to install.
