New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on April 28, 2021) follows:

We understand service outages or breakage are pretty common. But when an outage ends up concerning a massive user base, it becomes worth highlighting. Something similar is happening with the Aarogya Setu, CoWin, and UMANG platform as of writing this.

In the past few, a proliferation of reports have been flooding Twitter saying Aarogya Setu, CoWin, and UMANG are down and not working.

When launching the apps or website users are being fed a message stating ‘Timed out’ or ‘Oops! There seems to be some issue at Department of servers…’ according to reports.

Take a look at what some of the complainants have to say:

#COWIN is down, as expected. Its was like lighting deal that happen with online shopping portal (Source)

#ArogyaSetuapp is down since 2 hours now. @PMOIndia somewhere you need to pull up your socks now!! (Source)

It seems like the #CoWin portal is crashed due to heavy traffic for #VaccineRegistration. I am very hopeful about more & more 18+ citizens will register themselves because #VaccinesWork #cowinregistration #CoWinDown (Source)

cowin down

Given the fact that millions between the age of 18 and 44 may have stormed to the portals to get themselves registered for the vaccine, it isn’t surprising that the CoWin, Aarogya Setu, and UMANG servers are down. However, it’s disappointing nonetheless.

While reports continue to snowball, there’s yet to come an official word from the service providers. Worry not, we’re keeping a close watch on official channels for more information on the situation.

We’ll share with you the relevant developments as and when we bump into any. So keep stay tuned to this space for the latest info on the matter.

That said, this isn’t the only issue users have run into with the CoWin platform. Many users were reporting that they were not getting the OTP when trying to register via the CoWin app for Android. More on that here.

Update 1 (April 28)

05:03 pm (IST): It seems that the CoWin portal is working again according to a tweet via the official Aarogya Setu Twitter account. The information shared there suggests that there was a minor glitch at 4 pm. However, registrations are back online.
