New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on April 10, 2021) follows:

Xiaomi recently unveiled its plan to once again open doors for the Xiaomi Mi Mix series which used to be one of Xiaomi’s best innovations.

The craze and device support for the Mi Mix series faded away after they bagged the promised updates but looks like Xiaomi is pumping the production with a better roadmap this time.

Xiaomi chose not to restrict itself just to the new offerings but also has plans to extend its support to the existing ones.

The company has just sent out good news wrapped up as MIUI 12.5 for the Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Mi Mix 3, and a 3-year-old Mi Mix 2S smartphones.

After almost nearing its software update end, Xiaomi has injected new life into these devices with a confirmation of MIUI 12.5 update support for the Mi 8 and Mi Mix series.

The confirmation comes from a top-cadre company representative at an event in China yesterday.

Out of these devices, it is only the Mi Mix 3 which couldn’t make it to 2 major Android updates. But Xiaomi made sure that it at least gets the MIUI 12 update.

Now, after having MIUI 12.5 confirmed for these handsets, Xiaomi has not only extended the overall lives but has also availed itself a chance to regain Xiaomi fans’ trust.

The OEM works extensively throughout the year to make the MIUI 12 rollouts possible to a truckload of its devices across the globe.

After almost wrapping up the MIUI 12 rollout, the company devs are on to the next iteration, MIUI 12.5.

While the rollout of MIUI 12.5 has begun, it stays limited to owners in China. It has to go through rigorous testing at various stages before finally releasing it to the units outside of China.

Even though the company has confirmed MIUI 12.5 update for these devices, being worn out devices, it will certainly be at the bottom of the priority list.

Well nevertheless, it only adds more excitement to the age-old devices as they can still enjoy the optimizations, features, and stability that MIUI 12.5 offers.

There’s also a dedicated Xiaomi MIUI 12.5 update tracker where all the information related to your Xiaomi device is available.

Update 1 (April 19)

12:34 pm (IST): The MIUI 12.5 update might be in the works for the Mi 8 Lite as well, at least if the following mod comment is to go by:

Still, we recommend taking it with a pinch of salt since Xiaomi has currently only expanded their MIUI 12.5 eligible devices with Snapdragon 845 devices. And the Mi 8 Lite comes with a Snapdragon 660.
