New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on March 02, 2021) follows:

Although Xiaomi hasn’t exactly marketed the MIUI 12.5 update as the kind that brings forward interface changes, there have been several tweaks with the Control Center and MIUI Camera, coupled with many new animations.

This is quite understandable considering that Xiaomi always wanted to promote MIUI 12.5 as the kind of update that’s keen on improving what’s already on the table and further optimizing it.

Their MIUI 12.5 promo website further solidifies this supposition which sticks to only mentioning reduced CPU usage and power consumption, along with some generic stuff like new super wallpapers and Notes app enhancements.

Of course, there’s much more to MIUI 12.5 than shown on the website as a series of previous updates have introduced a slew of feature additions. We shall not delve into those here but if interested, you can always go through our MIUI 12.5 section.

However, recently, Xiaomi seems to have toned their feature additions as the last few series of updates have had pretty generic changelogs that only mention security updates or minor bug fixes.

This pretty clear from the last two updates, the latest being MIUI 12.5 beta 21.3.1, as you can see in their changelogs given below:

[21.2.26]
Browser:
1. Optimized the browser startup speed
2. Fixed issues such as invalid clipboard copying in certain scenarios
3. My video module page optimization

[21.3.1]
Gallery:
1. Optimize the performance of the album, fix some problems, and improve the experience of using the album

The MIUI 12.5 Chinese beta update versions 21.2.26 and 21.3.1 only tune the Browser and Gallery apps a bit. Boooring!

Obviously, we cannot expect OEMs to add a truckload of new features with every weekly update. But considering how almost every new MIUI 12.5 weekly update to date has only added new features, at least until recently, let’s just admit that they have sort of spoiled us all.

Nonetheless, this little shortcoming actually translates to good news as it shows that Xiaomi is now only polishing up existing stuff as a prep for final release. After all, the first batch of devices is slated to bag MIUI 12.5 stable at the beginning of Q2 2021.

Moreover, it is more important than ever that Xiaomi now chills a bit with feature additions and instead diverts its resources to fix existing bugs. Users are extremely dissatisfied with MIUI’s performance and it’s high time that Xiaomi sorts their stuff out.

An entire month is left for the initial releases of MIUI 12.5 stable which is ample for Xiaomi to iron out the remaining kinks. Let’s just wait and see how it all actually unravels though.
