New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on February 23, 2021) follows:

MIUI recently resumed their MIUI 12.5 beta development process following a 15-day break due to the Chinese New Year holidays. The first update to be released following this period of idleness was the MIUI version 21.2.19.

And while this version did not really bring anything new apart from a tiny tweak and an updated security patch, things are a bit different with the MIUI 12.5 beta update 21.2.22.

If you haven’t guessed already, the version numbering is based on the date of the build. From this, it is easy to come to the conclusion that Xiaomi gives out beta updates far quicker than any other OEM.

Barely three days have passed since the previous release, yet Xiaomi has already launched another. And the full changelog has been given for the same:

Xiaomi Service Framework:
1. Fix the problem that the text display of individual pop-up windows is not centered
2. Added “Reject and Don’t Ask Again” option in the Quick App permission popup

Browser:
1. Added picture viewing mode, long-press the webpage picture to enter, it is more convenient to view pictures
2. Optimize web clipboard permissions, support query options

As clear from above, there is firstly a new option in the Android permissions pop-up that now has a “Reject and Don’t Ask Again”. This little addition will prove to be especially helpful with apps that constantly bug users with permission requests.

Secondly, the MIUI browser now gets a new picture viewing mode that aims to make the experience similar to that of viewing images in a gallery app.

Additionally, although not mentioned in the initial changelog, the “Hide and move status bar” option has silently been removed. Not many users were into it anyway so it does make sense.

After all, the feature was designed for phones like the Poco F1 with giant, obnoxious notches. But as notches reduced in size and slowly transformed into punch holes, having this option around is nonsensical now.

We previously saw Samsung pull off a similar move.

Lastly, there have been some tweaks to the WLAN Assistant UI with the MIUI 12.5 21.2.22 update as shown in the image below:
