New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on February 12, 2021) follows:

The Poco X3 is undoubtedly a highly competitive device. It offers a hefty 6000 mAh battery, 120Hz display, 240Hz touch sampling rate, Snapdragon 732G, liquid cooling system, and much more.

The device’s spec sheet would easily lead anyone to believe that it’s an upper mid-range device with a modest price tag. However, at a ridiculously reasonable price of $250, it is still worth buying even several months after release.

That said, the device does seem to be coming under fire lately due to a range of camera issues plaguing it. This is in conjunction with 4G connectivity issues that we highlighted earlier.

Now, we did previously discuss camera focus issues. But reports regarding those have grown scarce. Perhaps, the Poco team has made some improvements in that matter through update releases.

However, there are now fresh reports regarding a bunch of other assorted issues plaguing the camera on the device.

Selfie camera, in photograph mode(not video), seems to be lagging. Before i take a picture with the selfie camera, if i talk, i notice that my talking appears on the screen like almost 0.3 second delayed and it gets so much worse if i put beautify on/filter

Poco X3. Camera gets stuck whenever I am turning on stabilization in video. Clearing app cache helps but it again gets stuck when I turn the stabilization on

Going by the above complaints, and many more, the following camera issues have been reported on the Poco X3:

1. Delay when switching over to the front camera.
2. Laggy front camera video recording
3. Camera view in the MIUI Camera displays preview with a delay that worsens when using filters

4. Freezes when using the ultrawide camera
5. Turning on video stabilization freezes the camera
6. Blurry image/video output

As clear from above, the number of issues with the camera on the Poco X3 is enough to make camera usage a pretty annoying experience, which is a shame considering that the device’s camera hardware is remarkable.

Also, the issues seem to be limited to the MIUI Camera app alone, as a few users have observed that they don’t encounter any of the above-mentioned problems on other apps. This shows that MIUI Camera is simply not optimized well for the Poco X3.

The spread of the issues isn’t clear at this point. But judging by the number of complaints, one can say that a pretty sizeable proportion of the Poco X3 userbase is affected.

But perhaps the worst part is that there is still no official acknowledgment with regards to the same. Complaints about the problem have been doing rounds for months and it’s high time that Poco at least issues a statement.

Nonetheless, there is fresh hope for the ones facing this issue. The Poco X3 is obviously eligible for both the Android 11 and MIUI 12.5 update.

And going by the fact that the device is slated to bag the MIUI 12.5 update sometime during late Q2 2021, it should receive the Android 11 update soon. After all, some Poco devices, like the Poco F2 Pro have already got it.

Hopefully, all the aforementioned issues will be resolved with Android 11. You will also be pleased to know that Xiaomi has opened up a new pilot testing program for which the Poco X3 is eligible. Head here for details.

Update 1 (April 21)

12:51 pm (IST): The Poco X3 camera issues, or at least the shutter lag, have finally been escalated to the Poco R&D. Hence, if all goes well, a fix should roll out in the form of a future update.
