MIUI 12.5 beta 21.1.18 adds brand new AOD themes, support for 90 FPS in Screen Recorder, status bar tweaks, & more

The fact that Xiaomi just can’t get enough of new features is undeniable. It was only recently that the Chinese company released the MIUI 12.5 beta version 21.1.15.

The update brought about a new camera mode called “magic clone freeze-frame” along with a nice little brightness slider tweak.

But like already said, no amount of feature additions can satiate Xiaomi, and hence they have done it once again.

Now with beta build 21.1.18, MIUI receives some fresh Always-on-display themes, support for 90fps in the Screen Recorder app, and status bar tweaks.

Coming firstly to the new AOD themes, there are now 4 cool new options to choose from. Each of them are based on the new MIUI 12.5 logo and have a glassy but classy look.

Next up is an option to screen record at 90 frames per second. This was much-needed considering how the latest smartphones, especially flagship ones, have displays that support 90Hz or even 120Hz refresh rates.

Now you can have buttery smooth screen recordings that complement your buttery smooth displays!

Keep in mind though that this feature is only available for Snapdragon 865 and upper devices which makes sense considering the fact that screen recording, especially at high refresh rates, can be highly demanding on the processor.

Nonetheless, the new screen recorder app is up for grabs. It may or may not work on global ROMs. To download it, simply head over to this link.

Lastly, there are some further tweaks pertaining to the hidden screen notch option on the Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 10 Youth Edition.

In case you are unaware, these new features, for the time being, are only available to the ones that have signed up for the China MIUI 12.5 closed beta program.

This testing period will continue for a few weeks or even months following which MIUI 12.5 will be rolled out as stable builds globally.

For now, be sure to go through our dedicated MIUI 12.5 update tracker if you are interested in its status for your Xiaomi device.
