New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 13, 2020) follows:

The Asus ROG Phone 2 brings an incredible amount of features and top-notch hardware to the table but somehow lacks VoLTE support on major carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T. This was also confirmed by Asus as they claimed that the device does not support T-Mobile Band 71 and VoLTE calls.

Given that the device was officially launched in the U.S., the lack of VoLTE support on major carriers is rather disappointing. Especially considering the fact that the ROG Phone 2 costs a pretty penny. Thankfully, not all the information coming out regarding the function is bad.

Recently, we reported that Asus is working with T-Mobile to bring VoLTE support for another device from the company. But there was no information regarding when we can expect to see the VoLTE support being brought over for the ROG Phone 2.

Asus ROG Phone II

Asus has already added VoLTE support via an OTA update for the ROG Phone 2 in regions such as Sweden and France. Further, it also recently pushed an update to the device to enable VoLTE on the Telia network in Norway, Sweden, and Finland.

And now, it appears that Asus is working with T-Mobile as well as AT&T to bring VoLTE support for the ROG Phone 2. This information was shared by an Asus moderator who was responding to a user’s query regarding the issue on ZenTalk. We’ve added the original message from the mod below:

Only our North America Team can answer this question. All queries regarding FOTA for the U.S needs to be addressed directly via our North America support line or E-mail.
But… I can say that we are aware of the comments made around VoLTE, T-Mobile, AT&T and that we are working with the mobile operators

Once again, the comment doesn’t entail an ETA but it gives us hope that VoLTE support on T-Mobile and AT&T might eventually arrive at some point in time for the ROG Phone 2. Even the newer ROG Phone 3 lacks VoLTE support on T-Mobile in the U.S whereas the ZenFone 6 may never get VoLTE support in the country.

So it’s about time Asus steps up and fixes the lack of VoLTE support on its devices before buyers begin to disregard the company’s phones altogether in the future. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update when new details are available.
