OnePlus Alert Slider unable to switch on silent mode? Here’s what you should try

One of the trademark features of OnePlus devices from very early in its life is the now infamous alert slider. Aside from iPhones, only OnePlus devices come with this switch.

For the uninitiated, this is a physical slider on the side of the phone that controls the device’s ringer settings. This is arguably far more useful and quick to access than the software-based options on all other smartphones.

As convenient as this slider is on supported devices, it is one more moving part on an otherwise compact device and as such, it is one more thing that could break.

And that is the situation that a few OnePlus users have found themselves in over the past few months or so. According to affected users, their OnePlus alert slider is unable to toggle to silent mode.

When alert slider is moved from ‘lower’ to ‘middle’ slot it changes from ‘Ring’ to ‘Vibrate’. But when moved from ‘middle’ to ‘upper’ slot there is no change in function from ‘Vibrate’to ‘Silent’. The phone stays in vibrate itself. OnePlus Alert Slider doesn’t get to silent mode

While some users are blaming their woes on a recent update to their devices, this hasn’t been confirmed or corroborated by any other users.

Hello friends, I m having problem with my alert slider after the update of oxygen os 11.0.1 as it can’t silent phone only take in vibration mode

This issue has been reported by a number of users across various OnePlus devices including the:

      – OnePlus 7
      – OnePlus 6
      – OnePlus 8

As it turns out, the fix to this issue could be as simple as a little cleaning. According to various users on the community forums (1,2,3) affected users only need to clean up grime and debris in the alert slider groove.

Clean out the groove for the alert slider. Specifically, the upper area, as most users keep it in the bottom position, so dirt will build up in the upper area. Use a toothpick or similar probe.

Affected users should, therefore, try prying out the dirt that’s jammed and stuck in the alert slider groove so as to be able to slide the rocker all the way.

This seems to have worked for affected users, much to their delight.

Thank you so much You Saved my day 😊😊
