You’d be forgiven to think that all Motorola Moto One devices are based on Android One. Sure, the first Moto One device was an Android One, but things have since been mixed up.

Out of all Motorola One devices, only the Moto One, Moto One Vision, Moto One Power and Moto One Action are part of Google’s Android One program. The Moto X4 (Google Fi) and Moto G Pro are also Android One.

This, in case you didn’t know, is the reason the said Moto Android One devices bagged their updates to Android 10 months ago yet the Moto One Macro, on the other hand, is only joining the party now.

Moto G Pro is an Android One device

For the uninitiated, the Moto One Macro, despite rocking the “One” moniker, is not part of Android One. And so are the Moto One 5G, Moto One Fusion+, Moto One Hyper, and Moto One Zoom.

Instead, these devices run on Motorola’s in-house software, which, by all means, is one of the closest to stock Android you can get out there, especially now that OxygenOS took a different direction.

The Moto One Macro Android 10 update comes after over a year of waiting, but it is finally here, albeit with a catch.

To all the moto one macro users out there, Android 10 soak test is available in India now. If you have signed in for MFN and got the invitation email a month ago, there are chances that you should also have got the update. Stable will be soon out in a month

In typical Motorola fashion, the Moto One Macro update to Android 10 is still limited to soak testers. Unless you are part of the company’s MFN program, the wait could take several weeks.

The incoming update tags along software version QMD30.39, which not only brings Android 10 OS, but also the latest November 2020 security patch.

As noted, it has taken Motorola more than a year to bring Android 10 to the Moto One Macro. For a device that is only receiving its first major OS update, the future of software updates looks bleak.

It is also unclear whether this device will get a second OS update to Android 11, but at this rate, it looks unlikely. Even if the device is eligible, the wait for the update could take months.

Still, this won’t stop us from keeping an eye on the official Motorola Android 11 update plans and let you know what’s happening.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
