Original story (published on September 18, 2020) follows:

MIUI 12 has been all the rage in the Xiaomi Community for a few months now and many devices have already received this update.

We have a well-maintained, dedicated tracker for the MIUI 12 rollout and you can check it out here.

Even then, there are still a number of devices from Xiaomi that, despite being eligible for an update to MIUI 12, the same has proved very elusive.

One such device is the Poco M2 Pro. We have a detailed post that goes into looking at the intricacies surrounding this update. You can check it out here.

A quick scroll through the socials and you will come across countless users (1, 2, 3, 4) asking Xiaomi to oblige and roll out MIUI 12 for their Poco M2 Pro devices.

Things get a little twisted from here. See, MIUI 12 is still a no-show for the M2 Pro and already, Xiaomi India is launching yet another device, the Poco M2.

Poco M2 India

Despite MIUI 12 being out for a couple of months, the Poco M2, which started selling a few days ago, comes with MIUI 11 pre-installed.

And yeah, like its M2 Pro counterpart, there is no word on when the MIUI 12 update will be released.

Also, Poco M2 is not exactly new. It is the exact same device, at least internally, as the Redmi 9 Prime in India, which in turn, is also sold in the global market as the Redmi 9. Get your act together Xiaomi!

Poco M2 is already sold globally as the Xiaomi Redmi 9

At the time of writing, the Poco M2 was yet to be listed in Poco India’s official website despite aggressive marketing and promotion by the company and the General Manager, Poco India, on the socials.

So where does this leave the Poco M2 and Poco M2 Pro with regards to MIUI 12? Well, we can’t definitively say at the moment.

Right now though, all eyes are on Xiaomi as pressure mounts to have the company roll out MIUI 12 to these two.

The wait for MIUI 12 for Poco M2 users might not be that long. This, because users of the Redmi 9, the Poco M2’s ‘identical twin’, have recently received a stable MIUI 12 build on their devices.

But this is all speculative and the wait could be longer as we still don’t have any meaningful communication from Xiaomi on the same.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this and update as and when we get more details. You might want to keep an eye on our dedicated MIUI 12 tracker for when the updates drop.
