New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 16, 2020) follows:

Up until recently, OnePlus has maintained a rather slim portfolio of devices. These devices came with top-tier internals and impressive cameras, all at a pretty bargain compared to the competition.

Unfortunately, and just like any other OEMs, OnePlus too has often struggled with its software.

OnePlus 5

Launched back in June of 2017, the OnePlus 5 represented the classic OnePlus recipe. It ran on the then flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, had 6-8GB of RAM and a 3300mAh battery.

At launch, the OnePlus 5 ran Android 7.1.1 and has since been updated up to Android 10-based OxygenOS 10.

Unfortunately, it looks like the update to OxygenOS 10 brought with it a few unexpected quirks in terms of bugs.

In the initial release back in May, it was evident from the changelog that EIS wasn’t working well and OnePlus promised users a fix in upcoming builds.

Well, OnePlus has recently pushed out OxygenOS 10.0.1 to the OnePlus 5 devices. Despite the update’s changelog stating that the build would add Electronic Image Stabilization to the device, users are reporting otherwise.

Recently in OOS 10.0.1 EIS is added again, that was removed in Android 10 oxygen is 10.0.0. But EIS is not working at all. All video recording mode that supports EIS ( 720 p, 1080 at 30fps, 4k @ 30fps) all are shaky. This bug is to be addressed soon. And to be pushed in next 10.0.2

This issue seems to be affecting both users of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T as evident from these user comments.

However, the incremental roll-out for OnePlus 5T is set to begin soon so we might want to reserve our judgment for after the 10.0.1 update hits the said units.

This has since been brought to the attention of OnePlus and in response, a community forum moderator confirms that EIS has indeed been enabled on OnePlus 5 devices.

He further expresses uncertainty over the performance of this feature on the said devices.

…yes EIS was included in the update, but with regards to performance, I am not sure. But hopefully, you’ll find your answer in the thread I just mentioned.
