Samsung Cloud Gallery Sync & Drive service termination timeline released

Samsung is now terminating support for the Cloud Drive storage and Gallery Sync services on its devices. The OEM has recently released the timeline of the Cloud Gallery Sync/Drive Service shutdown process. This process is part of Samsung’s strategic partnership with Microsoft.

Microsoft’s OneDrive will be supporting the Cloud Gallery Sync/Drive storage features and users will get an option to migrate their data to OneDrive. However, the service shutdown process is divided into two groups for different regions.

The Group 1 shutdown process kicks off from October 5, 2020 whereas Group 2 will go live from December 1, 2020. The aforementioned services will no longer be available and users will get an option to migrate their data to OneDrive or to download it on their device or PC.

However, it will be a gradual rollout and all users who fall under Group 1 or Group 2 will get notified within thirty days from the beginning of the process. While the complete timelines for both groups are available on the official Samsung Cloud site, you can also refer to the details given below.

Timeline of the Group 1 Shutdown Process

From October 5, 2020 – No longer be able to newly use above listed features
      – OneDrive migration and data download available
      * Gradual rollout (up to 30 days)
From April 1, 2021 – Discontinue existing use of Gallery Sync and Drive
      – End of OneDrive migration support
      – Cancel the then-current premium storage subscription automatically and refund the last payment
June 30, 2021 – End of data download support

Timeline of the Group 2 Shutdown Process

From December 1, 2020 – No longer be able to newly use above listed features
      – OneDrive migration and data download available
      * Gradual rollout (up to 30 days)
From June 1, 2021 – Discontinue existing use of Gallery Sync and Drive
      – End of OneDrive migration support
      – Cancel the then-current premium storage subscription automatically and refund the last payment
August 31, 2021 – End of data download support

It must be noted that after downloading the data on your device or migrating it to OneDrive, the data will be removed from the Drive storage earlier then mentioned in the timeline. Also, premium storage subscribers will get a refund for the last payment they made.

The list of countries that fall under Group 1 and Group 2 can be found by heading over here. Meanwhile, we will keep tracking this story and will provide details once more information becomes available.
