It is always refreshing to receive a new update on your device. This, because these updates often bring with them bug fixes, new features and optimization to existing ones, and if none of the above apply, well then the update goes to make your device more secure.

Asus might not be a juggernaut in the smartphone industry like they are in the PC market but the devices that this company puts out are equally impressive.

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is a smartphone built for gamers and it packs the internals and looks to match. The beefy device packs the top of the line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor with 8-16GB of RAM and up to 512 GB internal storage. It is powered by a 6,000mAh battery cell.

This newly-released smartphone has already bagged its first update that brought with it AirTrigger for gameplay, an Outdoor mode, three-finger screenshot feature among many other bugfixes. Today, the device is getting yet another update.

This new update is going out to the ROG Phone 3 with model number ZS661KS and bears software version number 17.0823.2007.32. Among the changes that are coming with this update are the enabling of VoLTE, fixes to Game Genie the Launcher crashing, screen black shadow and fixing the refresh rate issue.

-Fixed Game Genie crash issue if user drag the status bar and turn off ” allow display on other applicaions’ layer” during the game, then retrun to Game

-Fixed Launcher keeps crash after using Data transfer

-Fixed the problem of black shadow flashing on the screen when unlocking with the Lock Screen fingerprint

-Fixed issue that when dual-band Wi-Fi is turned on, the main and auxiliary are connected to WIFI, but there is only one Wi-Fi icon showing

-Fixed the refresh rate to be grayed out occasionally and prompt “The screen refresh rate setting is currently occupied by other applications or hardware” issue

-Enabled VoLTE on CTM (Macao)

This update should be hitting eligible ROG Phone 3 devices shortly. You might want to check for updates if you still haven’t received it. If not, sit tight and await the notification on your unit as the update is going out in batches.

Update 1 (August 5)

As per XDA’s report, the Asus ROG Phone 3 now supports the Google Phone application which is the same dialer app used on Pixel phones. Further, Netflix users are in for a treat since the device has bagged HDR support and users can play HDR 10 content at FullHD.

Update 2 (September 29)

Asus has released a new update for the ROG Phone 3 which brings a bunch of fixes and improvements. This update is rolling out as version 17.0823.2008.78 and fixes certain display issues and even enabled VoLTE/VoWiFi on ICE in Norway. Here’s the changelog:

– Added “Bypass charging” feature in the in-game Game Genie panel. Allows you to power the system without charging the battery.
– Enabled VoLTE/VoWiFi on ICE (Norway).
– Updated Android security patch
– Fixed the issue with display brightness irregularities after locking/unlocking device

– Fixed mobile network instability issue with HK network
– Fixed the manual screen refresh rate cannot be maintained in low brightness
– Improved display quality when playing video.
– Fixed the issue where the display brightness could become brighter after unlocking the device

– Fixed the issue where in certain instances the original charger and cable could not charge the device
– Fixed issue where in specific cases calls could not be received
– Fixed an issue where SMS may not be sent when using KDDI SIM card
– Updated APN data
– Optimize system update mechanism
