Vivo V9 Youth Android 10 (Funtouch OS 10) update plans reportedly shelved due to stability & compatibility concerns

Vivo V9 Youth Android 10 (Funtouch OS 10) update plans reportedly shelved due to stability & compatibility concerns

Vivo has in the recent past made a name for itself as a company that pushes the boundaries of what is possible and therefore, often being the first phone-brand to bring new features to market.

Case in point, Vivo was the first company to come up with a functional in-display fingerprint sensor, something that is quickly becoming the norm today. More recently, we have seen the world’s first ‘gimbal-style camera’ with the Vivo X50.

But that is not the only market segment that Vivo is working on. We have also seen the company push out very decent entry-level smartphones that offer so much value for money. One such device is the Vivo V9 Youth.

Launched back in April of 2018, the device was not exactly a powerhouse. It ran on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 450 chip and paired that with either 4GB + 32GB or 6GB + 64GB RAM and storage configurations. It came with Android 8 Oreo out of the box with Vivo’s own Funtouch 4.

The device has since been updated to Android 9 Pie and new reports indicate that that is as far as the device will get updated, at least officially.

When asked by a user about the status of Android 10 for the Vivo V9 Youth, a Vivo representative responds saying:

“Thanks for your support. Considering the stability and compatibility of the system, there are currently no plans for updating it to Android Q. Your understanding will be highly appreciated.”

With this, it is pretty clear that Android 9 Pie is as far as the device will get updated. Users seeking to further advance the version of Android running on their Vivo V9 Youth to say Android 10 might have to resort to aftermarket solutions for this.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this device and update should anything Android Q-related pop up. In the meantime, stay tuned to our dedicated Vivo section for these and many more Vivo stories.
