New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 27, 2020) follows:

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is one of the first Android smartphones to make use of the Snapdragon 865+ SoC. Being a gaming-centric phone, it comes with a ton of features to enhance the gaming experience for users.

Even though the device was announced just a week ago, it’s now receiving its first OTA update. Keep in mind, the ROG Phone 3 is yet to go on sale. Thus, the update should show up on users’ devices right after the first boot.

Before you take a look at the new features and bug fixes that come along with the update, you’d be surprised to know that even though the ROG Phone 3 was expected to be one of the most powerful and feature-packed phones, it wasn’t the most exciting upcoming phone from Asus according to our readers.

ROG-Phone-3

Coming back to the first update, it comes as version 17.0823.2007.25 and brings a few bug fixes as well as some useful features. We’ve provided the release notes for the new update below.

【Release Note】

– Added Outdoor mode in Sound settings
– Supported three-finger screenshot function
– Added AirTriggers feature to trigger macros during gameplay
– Fixed Bluetooth connection to the car (Lexus/Volvo), adjusting the volume on the phone during a call is invalid
– Fixed touch not working issue when the Airtrigger is set to multitouch
– Fixed Home occasionally black screen issue when entering the system and select the classic theme

The new AirTriggers feature will allow users to trigger macros while playing games. Thus, it will make it easier or rather quicker for mobile gamers to perform certain moves without having to tap on the screen.

Further, the update also brings the Outdoor mode option in Sound settings. Therefore, users should be able to hear the phone ringing clearly when outdoors with the mode selected. Another addition is the three-finger screenshot support function.

Users will be able to swipe down with three fingers to capture a screenshot. Of course, this isn’t a new feature altogether since several other Asus phones have it as an option. Nonetheless, it’s now brought over to the ROG Phone 3.

We’ve also provided the manual download link for the update in case you aren’t willing to wait for the OTA to arrive.

While these new features can be useful, another interesting feature that has been brought to light thanks to the folks over at XDA is the hidden option to enable the 160Hz refresh rate mode. The phone is officially marketed with a 144Hz refresh rate panel.

It seems Asus ROG Phone 3 users will have a lot to play around with once they get their hands on the device after the first sale which will start in August.
