Original story (published on July 23, 2020) follows:

The Poco X2 is one of the best mid-range smartphones buyers can get their hands on. While most of us know it as the Poco X2, the device is sold as the Redmi K30 4G in China. It released on February 11 in India and came with Android 10 alongside MIUI 11.

Needless to say, the device is in line to receive the MIUI 12 update and Android 11 if past trends are to be followed. However, there are still no signs of it. On the other hand, the Redmi K30 4G has already bagged two MIUI 12 updates in China.

It’s not uncommon for Xiaomi devices sold in China to pick up software updates before other regions. Matter of fact, most phones from the company are first updated in China with the update for global variants following next.

But it appears that this is not the case for the Poco X2. It’s now been more than a month and there’s still no word on when MIUI 12 will be released for the Poco X2. Naturally, users are concerned and have been seeking a response from the company.

Further, the Mi Community app and forum aren’t accessible for users in India. Hence, users are flocking to Twitter to voice their concerns regarding the MIUI 12 update.

This can be seen by the dozens of tweets being made by users questioning Poco about the elusive update. We’ve added a few screenshots below of tweets (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) from users:

That’s not all, the tweets keep coming in from concerned users. Thus we’ve added a few more tweets below to show that this is indeed something that Poco should work on soon.

In response to a user’s tweet, Poco India did tweet out a reply. However, this reply just makes matters worse. Here’s the statement from Poco India regarding the MIUI 12 update for the Poco X2:

Hi Ankur, we would like to inform you that as of now, we don’t have any information on the MIUI 12 update for Poco X2. We will keep you posted on this through our official Social media channels. We kindly request you to wait.

This response suggests that the MIUI 12 update for the Poco X2 could still be far off. One possibility for the delay could be a result of the privacy issues revolving around Xiaomi smartphones. Matter of fact, all Chinese-OEMs are being looked into.

Previously, we reported that Poco is working on a ROM for the Poco M2 Pro that dumps all the apps banned by the Indian government. Thus, it’s highly likely that the same is being done for the Poco X2. Of course, this has not yet been confirmed to be the case officially.

With the poor response from Poco’s side, it appears Poco X2 users might have to wait a while longer before MIUI 12 makes an appearance on the device. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update if and when something worthwhile arises.

In the meantime, you can visit our MIUI 12 update tracker to know when it arrives on your device. Xiaomi has also begun beta testing MIUI 12.1 in China.
