The Redmi Note 9S and the Redmi Note 9 Pro were released back in April and May 2020 respectively. These two devices are very similar, down to the Snapdragon 720G that powers both.

Both devices run Android 10 with Xiaomi’s MIUI 11 on top. The Note 9 Pro slightly edges out the Note 9S in the camera department, spotting a 64MP main sensor compared to a 48MP unit on the Note 9S. Overall, these are two very similar devices.

Both devices are in line for an update to Xiaomi’s MIUI 12 skin on top of Android but that isn’t due for a few more weeks. Today, however, users of these two devices have something to look out for as the company is rolling out the July 2020 security patch on top of Android 10.

For the Redmi Note 9S, this update doesn’t seem to bring much else other than a bump in the system’s security patch level. Below is the changelog.

Common changelog:

Optimization: Updated Android Security Patch to July 2020. Increased system security.

The update is currently rolling out as an OTA to users with the Global variant as V11.0.10.0.QJWMIXM, up from version V11.0.9.0.QJWMIXM. This OTA weighs in at 198MB.
