New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on July 13, 2020) follows:

Huawei has been stuck between a rock and a hard place since the ban imposed by the US government. With Google out of the picture, the company has been releasing its phones without Google Mobile Services. This is a major blow to potential buyers since Google services have become crucial to most.

Nonetheless, Huawei has managed to develop its own alternatives to Google’s offering such as the Huawei App Gallery. This is the company’s answer to the missing Google Play Store from its Android phones.

But it’s not stopping there, Huawei has been developing its own operating system. This new OS is called Harmony OS and version 2.0 is set to release in September. In our previous report, it was unclear whether Huawei will bring the new OS to its smartphone lineup.

However, new information suggests that the company may indeed opt for HarmonyOS on its upcoming phones. The following details were shared by a user on Huawei’s Chinese community forum:

The first launch of Hongmeng OS 2.0 is the same as EMUI 11, which should be Huawei Mate 40 series. It was not far from the release of the Mate series in September. If Huawei Mate40 is successfully equipped with Hongmeng system, EMUI 11 will be “based on Hongmeng”, it means that Huawei began to abandon Android and become its own system!

According to this, Huawei will be announcing EMUI 11 alongside HarmonyOS developments in September. Therefore, there are chances that the company decides to merge its own OS with EMUI 11. Of course, this is by no means an official statement. Hence, we’d suggest taking the information with a pinch of salt.

Having its smartphones running on an in-house OS will allow Huawei to optimize apps and other aspects to its liking. Moreover, it will give Huawei the ability to rope in users to its ecosystem of products.

EMUI 11 is expected to be Android 11-based and the first batch of devices to receive it has been leaked. Furthermore, you can check out our list of devices from the company that may get Android 11/EMUI 11.

As usual, we will follow the situation closely and will post an update with further details.
