Not too long ago, we got word that OnePlus was suiting up in preparation for the opening up of applications and recruitment of a closed Beta for the OnePlus 8 and the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Well, true to those reports, OnePlus is now inviting interested users of the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro to participate in a closed Beta program, presumably for Android 11/R.

It is worth noting that OnePlus often runs three Beta programs before it releases any major OxygenOS upgrade. Usually, these are a Closed Beta, Open Beta, and the MP (official) build. The Closed Beta is usually pretty exclusive, often not more than 100 slots per device.

While the company hasn’t exactly shared the number of available slots yet, it is safe to assume that these will be pretty limited. The company has also made public the requirements for the kind of users they’re looking to recruit in this exercise.

According to OnePlus, in order to be eligible for this OnePlus 8 Closed Beta program, you’ll have to meet the requirements below:

– Use a OnePlus 8 series device (unlocked non-carrier versions)
– Be an active OnePlus Community member
– Be willing to constantly communicate and provide feedback to the OnePlus team on Slack

If you meet these requirements and are willing to install buggy, often unfinished software on your device, then you can go ahead and apply for a position in this Closed Beta program.

Prospective testers can apply for a slot on the Beta Program using this link.

We can only hope that more OEMs strive to develop their own versions of Android 11 so that by the time it becomes official, their devices don’t have to wait that long to receive updates to the new version of Android.
