Google Pixel 3a & 3a XL June security update enables Airtel VoWiFi (WiFi calling) support in India

Google recently delayed the Android 11 beta 1 update that was about to come up today, to a further date which is announced yet. The reason cited by Google is due to the protests going on in the US.

But, we have reported yesterday that a few of the Pixel 4 XL users received a new update which surprisingly was the Android 11 beta update.

While the Mountain View tech giant is busy on rescheduling the Android 11 beta 1 update rollout plans, recently it pushed the latest June 2020 security updates for its Pixel 3 lineup.

Notably, the Pixel 3 lineup includes the Google Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3a and the 3a XL. And as per user reports, this new security update along with the latest patch also triggers the VoWiFi feature on the Pixel 3, 3 XL, 3a nd 3a XL devices.

This new VoWiFi update has enabled the Airtel VoWiFi (WiFi Calling) support in India. Basically, the WiFi calling features makes use of the WiFi network (if available) in order to connect to calls instead of your regular mobile signal, to provide you with improved and high-quality voice and video calls.

This also negates the call drop and signal drop issue as well. As per several users, this Pixel 3 VoWiFi update has currently enabled the WiFi calling feature for the Airtel network for other Google Pixel 3 series devices like the 3XL, 3a, and 3a XL as well, as mentioned earlier.

After installing the June 2020 system update on my Pixel 3XL I received a notification offering WiFi calling. Upon activation (on the phone, no need to contact Visible) everything works as expected, I can now receive voice calls and SMS to my carrier number when on WiFi. Some good news out of the blue.

If you have also received this latest Pixel 3a/ 3a XL VoWiFi update and would like to enable the VoWiFi or WiFi calling feature on your Pixel 3 device, then you need to go to Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network > Advanced > WiFi Calling.

Turn on the WiFi calling switch to use the high quality calling feature using the WiFi network. Let us know in the comments below if this update also enables the VoWiFi for other networks or not?

NOTE: We regret to announce there was a miscommunication regarding some of the information included in the story, as according to the official website, VoWiFi was made available only for the Pixel 3a and 3a XL devices on Airtel network.
