Original story (published on May 25) follows:

Xiaomi’s Mi MIX series remains iconic for being one of the pioneers of the so-called bezel-less era of smartphones. The first came out in late 2017 and a year down the line came the Mi MIX 2.

Powered by Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box souped up by the company’s MIUI 8, the Mi MIX 2 now sits on MIUI 11 based on Android Pie.

While there is still at least one more MIUI update to come, do not expect the Mi MIX 2 Android 10 update to materialize. Having received its promised two OS upgrades, there is no more room for Android 10 for Mi MIX 2 owners, at least not officially.

Going forward, all device owners can expect security updates alongside the much-awaited MIUI 12 update. Xiaomi has already confirmed this by including the Mi MIX 2 in its MIUI 12 roadmap (phase 2) that is expected to begin in July 2020.

When it arrives, the Mi MIX 2 MIUI 12 update is expected to bundle a handful of Android 11-related features, you know, just like MIUI 11 came with a few Android 10-related features. However, the base OS will remain at Android Pie.

For those willing to go the extra mile, you can expect plenty of Android 10-based custom ROMs to show up on forums like XDA Developers. Heck, you can even be sure that unofficial Mi MIX 2 Android 11 updates will be available at some point.

Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
