New update alert: T-Mobile OnePlus 7T, 7T Pro (5G) McLaren Edition, Infinix S5, Samsung Galaxy S10, Nokia 6.1 & Nokia 7 Plus
It is always refreshing when your device gets an update. The potential of getting new features on your phone and the peace of mind that your device is secured by the latest security patches.
In recent times, Android OEMs have turned over a new leaf. Today, more and more Android devices, irrespective of the price-point, are getting more updates, and for longer. Today, we look at a bunch of these Android devices that are getting updates in this roundup.
First up are the OnePlus 7T devices on T-Mobile. We know that, carrier devices often lag behind their international and unlocked counterparts in terms of getting updates. While this has tremendously improved over the past couple of years, there’s more to be done. That said, T-Mobile is today rolling out an update to the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro, and 7T Pro (5G) McLaren Edition.
This update brings with it the April 2020 security patch level and a few system stability improvements. This update can be identified by the software version number 10.0.8.HD63CB . For the OnePlus 7T Pro (5G) McLaren Edition, software version for the new update is 10.0.34.HD61CB. The update’s changelog is as follows.
-Android security patch upgrade to April 2020
-System stability improvements
-General bug fixes
Also getting an update is the Infinix S5. This update comes even at a time when users are on edge as to when their device is likely to get updated to Android 10. This update also packs the April 2020 Android security patch level.
Thanks to one Saurabh Prakash (Rahul) on Twitter for this tip. We can only hope that Infinix comes around to rolling out this update to your device.
The next device that is receiving an update is the Samsung Galaxy S10. According to users of this Samsung flagship from 2019, the device is getting updated to the May 2020 security patch update. This is rather impressive as lately, Samsung has been absolutely killing it at rolling out these regular updates on time.
This update, dated May 3rd has been reported by users of the Galaxy S10 in Germany and the UK. Of course, users of the device in other regions should expect the same update to hit their device in due course.
It is still quite unclear what other changes this update brings to the Galaxy S10, if it beings any changes at all. We shall include the changelog for this update in subsequent posts so stay tuned.
Not to be left behind, everyone’s favorite comeback story, Nokia is also pushing out an update to two of its devices. The Nokia 6.1 and the Nokia 7 Plus are today receiving an update that will bump up the Android security patch level on these two devices to April 2020.
Nokia being part of the Android One project, these devices are pretty much guaranteed regular updates like these for at least 3 years since they were first unveiled. Also since they run a pretty lean version of Android, these updates are pretty light and don’t pack more than just the updated security patch levels.
It is refreshing to see Android phone makers pushing out these monthly patch updates to their devices. This only goes to show how much Android as a platform has matured.
NOTE: We have a dedicated section for monthly security patches here.
