Original story (published on April 17) follows:

After months of testing, OPPO is now rolling out the stable ColorOS 7.0 update based on Android 10 to several phones that include the Reno2, Find X series, as well as the Reno, Reno Ace, Reno Ace Gundam Edition and Reno 10x Zoom.

A truckload of others is still testing the beta version of the software with potential releases for most devices this quarter, among them the Reno2 F, Reno2 Z, Reno Z, A9, F11, and F11 Pro.

But if you just came from under a rock, it should be news to you that ColorOS 7.0 isn’t the latest version of the OPPO skin available today. With the launch of the OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro, the company debuted ColorOS 7.1.

Although still based on Android 10, you can always expect a few features sneaked into the newer ColorOS 7.1 version that are not present in the ColorOS 7.0 version. Of course, these features can always be ported to older devices via software updates, but no one knows if OPPO has such plans.

What we do know, though, is that the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro are now being added into a ColorOS beta program that will see them access new features ahead of the rest. Since this duo has the latest ColorOS 7.1, this could mean a thing or two.

One is that this could just be a typical beta testing program for new features and fixing bugs before rolling out to the masses, you know, like Xiaomi does with MIUI weekly beta updates in China. Secondly, this could be a hint that the Find X2 and Find X2 Pro ColorOS 8 update is almost here.

Google is already testing Android 11 developer preview with an expected public release for the beta version in a couple or so weeks, just in time for the closing stages of this beta recruitment exercise, which ends on May 15.

Since OPPO had a device in the early beta testing program for Android Q, we can as well assume that this year’s Android R beta will include at least one OPPO device testing ColorOS 8 update. Going by the latest developments, though, we could have at least two – the Find X2 and X2 Pro.
