Xiaomi planning to take off notification LED from future devices?

I have been part of the Android 10 ecosystem for over a decade. During the course of time, I have personally seen smartphones evolving and new innovative tech being fused into them.

Moreover, as times have progressed, we have seen the slow death of the of some of the once-very-important features, yes! I am talking about the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the notification LED.

Although there is a replacement for the 3.5 mm jack in the form of Bluetooth earphones, there hasn’t been any concrete of full proof replacement for the notification LED.

Well, the reason behind the removal of the notification LED is pretty simple and that is the modern smartphone designs, demand bezel-less, and all-screen displays.

Devices like OnePlus 7 Pro sport an all-screen display

There are smartphone OEMs that are trying to overcome this scarcity, for instance, OnePlus has Horizon light, Samsung has Edge Screen which basically lights up the edges of the screen whenever a new notification arrives.

These solutions are apt as per the current smartphone designs. But what might come as a shocker to smartphone users, especially the Xiaomi users is that the company is planning to remove the notification LED from future devices.

This information was hinted in a post by one of Xiaomi’s moderators on the community forum. The post reads:

There are a number of Android phone owners who are upset because their device does not have an LED notification light. Though most of the Xiaomi phones have a notification LED. But it’s 2020 and there are more chances to disappear notification LED from phones!

Matter of fact, as per the poll in the same post, as of writing, we can see that 90.38% of the users have voted in favor of keeping the notification LED on the phones while 3.85% of the users have voted in favor that it is an interruption.

It is clear from the poll that notification LED is important and users want them on their phones. But as the last line of the first paragraph of the post reads, we might see, Xiaomi ditching notification LED completely in favor of achieving the completely bezel-less design.
