New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on March 03, 2020) follows:

Google Pixel phones are usually among the first devices to get updates. And, the same happened with the March update as well. Google started rolling the update for the Pixel 4 users yesterday.

However, it now appears that the search giant never issued the update (or pulled it out quickly) for the AT&T Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. The developer website link clearly mentions that the March update is available for all except AT&T.

AT&T Pixel 4 March update

Google has not come out with any reason on why it pulled out AT&T Pixel 4 March update. However, those who were able to sideload the package successfully (from developers page) say that they are experiencing issues with Google Play protect certification and Google Pay.

Several users have raised the said issue on social platforms, including Reddit. A Reddit user said:

I can’t use Gpay contactless feature after March security update. Anyone else experimenting this problem?….My phone is not rooted, bootloader is locked, I have the ATT Pixel 4XL variant. I sideloaded the March security update yesterday and I woke up to this today

AT&T Pixel 4 March update

Affected users say Google Pay is throwing an error that the phone does not meet the software standards. It seems, Google developers probably forgot to certify the AT&T build, and that is why it is throwing an error.

AT&T users, as can be expected, are disappointed. This is the second time in three months that a monthly update has been delayed or pulled or the Pixel phones on AT&T. Another Reddit user said:

I thought when the Pixel 4/XL rolled out on all carriers it would be a good thing, but oh how naive I was. I should’ve seen this coming. Google allowing AT&T to mess with updates is completely unacceptable

Google-Pixel-4

If these user reports are true about AT&T Google Pixel 4 March update, then it is surely an unacceptable behavior from a company like Google. We can only hope that the company releases the fixed update shortly, considering it has already pulled the AT&T Pixel 4 March update.

Update 1 (March 05, 2020)

Google has responded (via Android Police) saying that rolling out the AT&T build was actually a mistake and that it will be released in a few days. But the company didn’t highlight the Google Pay issues arising from the previously released build.

Update 2 (March 07, 2020)

The update is available now and both the OTA and factory image pages have been updated.
