New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on February 13, 2020) follows:
NVIDIA introduced an Android TV-based media player called the Shield back in 2015 which was refreshed in 2017 with a 16 GB variant. However, in 2019 another variant of the NVIDIA Shield was launched with powerful processors and a more compact form factor.
For naive, the latest version of NVIDIA Shield comes with NVIDIA® Tegra® X1+ processor with a 256-core NVIDIA GPU and 2 GB RAM, 4K and Dolby Vision support, along with Dolby Atmos as well. It offers 8 GB of onboard storage and runs on Android 9 Pie.
But according to some users, they are facing a bug with the Alexa voice assistant. New users of the NVIDIA Shield are not able to use the Alexa assistant on their device. This issue was first reported about a few months ago and is still going strong.
You can dozens of reports highlighting this issue on Reddit or even in the official NVIDIA forum. You can check out some of the reports below:
Wondering how well the Alexa integration with Nvidia Shield works? Can you have Alexa open specific apps? Can Alexa control playback? Can you request Alexa to play specific content? Also do you have to invoke Alexa like some skills require and say something like “Alexa tell Shield to…”
I am logged in on my Nvidia Shield TV 2019 with my Nvidia account and my Google Account. The Shield is already updated to the latest update. When I use the Alexa app either on my computer or the Alexa app on my iPhone and try to enable Shield TV skill it just takes me to the Nvidia homepage where I log in there but I never get to link the 2 accounts. There is no pop up that asks to accept the link. I hit done and it just takes me back to the ENABLE TO USE account linking required screen. Any ideas?
Has anybody experienced were nvida shield will process a message from Alexa and after it successfully execute the command Alexa will say sorry nvidia shield is having trouble. The command has been executed successfully but I keep getting this message from alexa.
Taking into consideration the severity of this issue, NVIDIA has finally acknowledged this issue and a solution will be made available in the future.
We are currently resolving an issue configuring the NVIDIA SHIELD Skill for Alexa and hope to have a solution quickly. If you have already paired your SHIELD to Alexa, your experience will not be affected. This only affects new users enabling the skill for the first time.
In the meantime, users of Nvidia Shield need to wait for the fix to arrive on their devices. Let us know in the comments below if you are also facing this issue with Alexa voice assistant on your Nvidia Shield?
