New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on February 05, 2020) follows:

Huawei started rolling out the stable Honor View 20 Android 10 update (Magic UI 3.0) in mid-November 2019, but to date, many haven’t received the new OS.

In this article, we dive deeper into the current status of the Magic UI 3.0 update for the View 20, more so for those in India and perhaps others who haven’t received the OS yet.

Honor View 20 Android 10 update rollout is staged

It’s normal for the interval between rolling out a software update in region A and region B to stretch across weeks or even months in some cases. This is because software updates are rolled out gradually depending on regions, carriers and other factors.

Honor View 20 Magic UI 3.0 update based on Android 10

The Honor View 20 Android 10 update is no exception. Having arrived nearly three months ago in Europe, owners of the same device in India and probably many other markets are still waiting on the Huawei subsidiary to push the OTA to their units.

The reason for a staged rollout is always the same: so that companies can closely monitor the performance of the new firmware on a few units before rolling out the OS widely. In case of any major bugs, this ensures the damage is easy to contain.

December 2019 security update

In late December 2019, Honor View 20 owners in India received a new software update that bundled December security patches. Although a newer patch than what View 20 owners in Europe received alongside the Magic UI 3.0 update, it was still based on Android Pie.

With this, it was clear that the View 20 in India won’t be updated to Android 10 anytime soon, at least not in January 2020.

Magic UI 3.0 update rollout halted

Despite the general consensus that the delayed arrival of the View 20 Android 10 update in other regions was due to the usual precautionary procedures taken during major software updates, last month Huawei Central revealed that the rollout had actually been halted.

This has since been seconded by Honor India with the statement below on Twitter.

Honor View 20 Magic UI 3.0 update set for this February

According to Honor India, owners of the View 20 can rest assured that their update to Magic UI 3.0 will arrive this month. There is no specific date, but there is the mention of the second week of the month, which is not too far away.

Please be informed that we will start releasing Android EMUI 10 by second week of February 2020.

You may want to ignore the support guy’s mention of EMUI 10 update for the View 20 because that’s not the case. Instead, the View 20 and a bunch of other Honor devices will receive Magic UI 3.0 based on Android 10.

We will keep our eyes open and update this post when the stable Android 10 update arrives on the View 20 in India and other markets as well.

Update 1 (February 10, 2020)

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
