[Redmi K30 5G too!] OnePlus’ Pete Lau teases 120Hz screen while ZTE working on 144Hz refresh rate display panel

New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 13, 2020) follows:

OnePlus, the company once thought to be the flagship killer, has since grown to become a flagship itself. Despite being priced lower than the premium offers in the market today, the company delivers innovative features.

To showcase the future of the company, OnePlus has scheduled an event dubbed “OnePlus 2020 Screen Technology Communication Meeting”. Many hope that OnePlus will unveil its next-generation display at the event.

The event is slated for today, January 13th. A few hours to the event, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the company has completed research and development of a 120Hz display panel.

This higher-than-ever refresh rate screen that could be used in the upcoming smartphone given that the OnePlus 7T series phones come with 90Hz refresh rate.

OnePlus will be revealing more details about this 120Hz refresh rate display at the “2020 Screen Technology Communication Meeting”. Even as that unfolds, another Chinese phone maker is also developing a 144Hz display.

On the other hand, Ni Fei, general manager of Nubia smartphones, shows a screenshot said to have been taken from Nubia Red Magic 5G. The Weibo post further goes to say that the display tech is ready for production.

2020 is shaping up to be the year of the high refresh rate display. A novelty in 2019, having been seen on only a handful of devices, more and more upcoming devices are rumored to have displays with 90Hz refresh rates.

Those, who believe that sky is the limit, are now trying to incorporate 120Hz or even 144Hz display techs. Certainly a good year to be a gamer!

NOTE: The OnePlus event starts in a few hours and we’ll be bringing you all the details from the event.

      Update 1

A few more details about the next-gen OnePlus family have been released. According to reports, the upcoming OnePlus phone will have a 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate.

It will also have a 240Hz screen sampling rate, coupled with MEMC motion compensation and a 10bit color display effect. A really impressive fete for a smartphone display.
