After serving for over three decades, photo slideshow software company Photodex has now decided to pull the plug on the service. As you may know, Photodex is well recognized for its ProShow product lineup which consists of ProShow Gold, ProShow Producer, and ProShow Web.
Here’s what the shut down notification (that was shared a few hours back) at Prodex’s official website conveys about the closure:
It’s always sad to say goodbye. After over 30 years, Photodex Corporation will be closing permanently on January 31, 2020. We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve our customers over the last three decades.
So what will change with shutdown?
– After January 31, Photodex will cease all operations. Meaning, the website, online service & tech support won’t be accessible after that. So those of you who haven’t yet upgraded to the latest version of ProShow can do it before the termination of the service, as purchase won’t be available after that.
– Downloading the installer for ProShow won’t be an option after the closure. So users are recommended to that in time. Both the current as well as the older version of ProShow are available for download.
– ProShow desktop software, ProShow Gold and ProShow Producer can be used despite the closure. However, the “Services within ProShow that rely on Photodex servers will cease to function on January 31, 2020. This includes the music library and downloadable extras.”
– Just in case you plan to reinstall ProShow after termination, you’ll need to registration keys that were sent to you while purchasing ProShow. For those who misplaced the keys can grab a copy by filling a form, but only before the shutdown.
– Even after service termination, there shouldn’t be an issue using the effects packs that have been purchased.
Photopia – a ProShow alternative
Coming to ProShow alternative, Photodex is officially recommending users to go for Photopia, which they say is created by some of the original developers of ProShow, though it’s not published by Photodex.
