New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on January 2, 2020) follows:

Realme has surely grown leaps and bounds back in the previous year. And it won’t be wrong to tag 2019 as one of the best years for this new Chinese brand.

To recall, according to the CMR MICI survey back in 2019, Realme attained top position in terms of lowest return rates for any smartphone brands.

Moreover, it was one of the few Android smartphone manufacturers that came up with the Android 10 update roadmap for its devices.

Keeping up with this positivity, Realme has officially teased the new smartphone lineup, the Y series on its community platform and in a Weibo post.

Looking at the above two posts, it looks like the official announcement regarding the purported Realme Y series will be made tomorrow i.e. January 2, 2020.

The device is probably going to be launched alongside the Realme X50 5G model which is expected to get revealed in a press conference on January 7, 2020.

However, it might not be a new phone at all. According to Chandler (Realme Camera Department), there are no information about the release of the new Y series in India.

This info came from the official Telegram Realme camera discussion group. Getting confused? Me too, so let’s change the focus.

ColorOS 7 is also one of the important tasks that Realme has up its sleeves and recently we have reported the upcoming features that this new iteration will tag along.

And based on the suggestion and experience of the early adopters of ColorOS 7, Realme has posted a report on its Chinese community website:

Hi! Echo wall NO.12 to report ~

Long time no see, the echo wall has reached the 12th period. After carefully listening to the suggestions of the real fans, the siege lions have made a lot of efforts, such as the launch of the early adopter of ColorOS 7.

4.Requirement on “Adding One-Key Copy of Verification Code and SMS”
This function has been implemented — Smart SMS function. However, it needs to adapt to third-party applications, and it is not guaranteed that all application scenarios can be implemented.

5. Suggestions on “lock screen time plus switch to display lunar calendar”
Received suggestions, will be implemented in version 7.0

The automated translation might introduce some gibberish texts, and we are really helpless in this regard.

Update (January 4)

After teasing the Y moniker on social channels and community platform, Realme has finally raised the curtains. The Y does not stand for a new smartphone lineup, instead, it is for Yang Zi, who is the first global spokesperson for the Realme brand.

Realme came up with this official announcement on their Chinese community platform (translated from Chinese):

Welcome @ 杨 紫 to be the first global spokesperson for the realme brand!

Bravery, youth, and real are our common labels.

5G Youth flagship # 真 我 X50 #, full Netcom dual-mode 5G mobile phone, full coverage of mainstream frequency bands, officially released on January 7.

With Yang Zi, start the era of 5G leapfrog for realme. Don’t wait, let’s talk about 5G!

With this announcement, all our hopes of getting a new Y-series lineup bites the dust. However, Realme will bring in their first 5G smartphone the X50 5G which is due for release on January 7, 2020. We will have to wait and see further developments in this regard.
