You don’t need a smart television to stream your favourite movies and TV shows today. There are gadgets available in the market today that will provide your regular television set with the ability to establish an internet connection.

People mostly use Amazon Fire TV Stick, Android boxes, and NVIDIA Shield for this purpose. Despite being the expensive among the lot, all three generations of the last one has a significant customer-base. And as a Plex user, you get to organise media libraries as well.

The latest Shield TV 2019 went live in two versions, regular and Pro. Running on Android 9.0 Pie, they both pack in Tegra X1+ chipset with for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. In spite of all the goods, they removed third-party launcher support recently.

What has beeped on our radar today is another NVIDIA Shield issue pertaining to Plex. Although the issue reportedly began contaminating the application a year ago, a proper fix hasn’t arrived yet. Have a look at a couple of complaints.

NVIDIA Shield “Your connection to the server is not fast enough to stream this video”
I have tried to go through the forums and adjust various settings and tweaks that other users have posted to no avail. Most of my videos are buffering and stopping so much that it is pretty much unusable and a completely frustrating experience. My videos are setup on a Synology NAS through a full Ubiquiti network system using premium solid copper CAT6a cables. There should be absolutely nothing wrong with my hardware.
This buffering and stopping situation happens regardless of file size or location. I have four nvidia shields in the house. They used to work perfectly but obviously some update has caused this issue. Since it used to work perfectly, I am using high quality network components and it happens on all four of my devices I am ruling out cabling and hardware.
Is there going to be a fix or has Plex staff realized there is an issue? If anyone has had similar issues and using the same type of gear but have had success in fixing please post your solution. Right now I am doing a work around using VLC player which isn’t ideal but at least there is zero buffering issue.

We could spot a steady surge in the last 24 hours as more than half a dozen people commenting with the same issue under the thread. From the initial looks of the trouble, we do think it arises from Plex application.

Interestingly, this problem never comes into play when one tries to open Plex from Kodi. Moreover, a user has suggested another workaround (forcing a transcode on the Shield) too. However, going through the same deteriorates the quality of the streaming.

From the forum entries that users made, we could deduce the bug is prominent on 2017 and 2015 versions. And, isolated worries can be seen from those who are using the latest 2019 iteration as well. Irrespective of all those, no official fix has come out yet.
