Perrenial smartphone rivals Samsung and Apple are the two leading smartwatch vendors in the world. But unlike smartphones, Apple leads the way in the wearable business with a market share that more than doubles that of its closest competitor.

From the look of things, Apple’s dominance in the smartwatch market isn’t going away anytime soon, but Samsung is also catching up, although still a long way to go.

With the Galaxy Watch Active2, Samsung is expected to continue growing its smartwatch market share in various markets, including the U.S., where the Watch Active2 has an LTE variant selling through carriers such as AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular and Verizon Wireless.

If you purchased a Verizon Galaxy Watch Active2 model, you’ll be glad to know that an interesting software update is now rolling out to the wearable right now.

One of the highlight features of the Galaxy Watch Active2 is the digital Touch Bezel that replaced the physical bezel design on the Watch Active. However, the Active2 comes with this feature disabled by default and needs to be enabled manually via the Galaxy Wearable app.

After installing the incoming Verizon Galaxy Watch Active2 update, this Touch Bezel setting will now be enabled by default, which is what it should be have been from the beginning.

The current software update provides improved GPS performance and changes the setting of Touch Bezel. Touch Bezel setting is now turned on by default.

The new Verizon Galaxy Watch Active2 update is arriving as software version R835USQU1ASHH for the 40mm model and version R825USQU1ASHH for the 44mm model.

It’s now a month since the Watch Active2 received this same update outside the U.S., which emphasizes the fact that carriers are a stumbling block when it comes to the timely delivery of software updates. To be fair, though, the Watch Active2 only started selling in the U.S. a month ago.

We expect the same update to be pushed by other carriers to their Watch Active2 models in the coming days. Sprint recently added VoLTE support so we hope the Touch Bezel update is next.

Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
