Essential Phone (PH-1) October security update hits units

If you want to give credit to any smartphone brand for bringing in the notch display, then it has to be the Essential phone. Yes, notches have become a bit outdated as OEMs are now looking for options to provide completely notch-less phones.

Essential Phone is the brainchild of Andy Rubin, who happens to be one of the creators of Android.

For a refresher, the Essential phone was launched in 2017 and was able to grab eyeballs. However, due to its new notched design, it faced severe flak from the tech community but who knew, that this design will make its way on almost every smartphone, a year later.

The device packed in the Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. In the back, the Essential Phone packed in a dual-camera 13MP+13MP setup. In the front, the notch housed an 8MP sensor. The phone packs in a 5.7-inch QHD panel and a fingerprint scanner at the back.

Under the hood, the device is powered by the 3040 mAh battery. It also featured a two-pin module at the rear where you can attach an additional camera module to take the photography to the next level. The device came with Pie, and is now one of the first devices alongside Pixels to run Android 10.

Cut to now, Essential has rolled out the October security update for the Essential Phone (PH-1). Talking about the update, it carries the build number QP1A.190711.148. Make sure that you have a stable internet connection for downloading the update.

Below are the official changelog and the screenshot of the update received on the Essential Phone (PH-1)

      New Features Include:

      • Security Patches 2019-10

      Source

The update reportedly fixes severe vulnerability issues related to Android 10. Another user stated that this update fixed the issue of constant network dropping on the Essential Phone (PH-1). However, for some users the no notification bug is still not fixed with this update.

Note that the update is being rolled out via OTA in batches & will take some time in reaching all the devices. But, for power users who would do not want to wait for the OTA and install the update package right away, then below is the download links to the OTA and Fastboot update file for sideloading:
