Qualcomm boosted the performance of their mid-range Snapdragon 6xx series so much in last few years, and even started to minimize the difference from the flagship tier with the introduction of Snapdragon 7xx lineup. Well, now you should realize the reason to reuse older SoCs in recent phones.
Talking about SD660, Xiaomi released Mi Note 3 in the same year when Qualcomm made the SoC available in retail market. Besides Xiaomi, OPPO also picked up this handy performer and designed a couple of phones based on the platform.
One such phone, OPPO K1, recently received Android Pie based ColorOS 6 via early soak testing. The software update scenario, however, was not the same for legacy SD660 based phones, such as OPPO R11s family.
Large AMOLED display, dual (16+20 MP) rear cameras, 20W VOOC fast charging support – OPPO delivered a bunch of lucrative features with the R11s. The ‘Plus’ edition of the phone packs a bigger battery (4,000 mAh versus 3,200 mAh).
Both OPPO R11s and R11s Plus were launched with Android 7.1 Nougat (ColorOS 3.2). They are currently running Oreo based ColorOS 5.2, and looks like the Pie update is finally around the corner! Similar to other OPPO phones, the initial rollout is available as a limited trial.
Besides the regular OPPO R11s (Plus), the current soak testing initiative also supports OPPO R11st and R11s Plust. Users need to install the latest Oreo based firmware (R11s_11.A.39_0390_201907241225) before applying for the trial.
As for the changelog, R11s lineup are now getting the taste of revamped UI across the whole system, new digital assistant called Breeno, several improvements for mobile gaming and app drawer in the launcher (finally!).
