Xiaomi’s Redmi has this tendency of refreshing devices after every six or so months. It’s only earlier this year that the Redmi Note 7 series was unveiled and not long ago, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro started selling in China.

With the Redmi Note 7 family still fresh in the hands of many buyers in India, the wait for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8 Pro to arrive in the brand’s top-selling market is set to take weeks.

Mi Fans. Thank u for your excitement for #RedmiNote8Pro, world’s 1st phone to be launched with #64MP Quad Camera. We’ll do our best to bring them to India asap! However, certification & testing might take ~8 weeks. Will keep you posted.

According to Redmi, the 8-week long wait (beginning early this month) is due to certification and testing procedures. Of course, the wait could be shorter or maybe even longer than the projected period.

But even before the Redmi Note 8 Pro officially leaves the Chinese market, interested buyers can already ship one to their preferred destination.

As you may have guessed, the currently available variants of the Redmi Note 8 Pro (and the standard Note 8) have the Chinese MIUI ROM installed out of the box and not the global ROM.

Today, this Chinese variant is now receiving a new MIUI 10.4.8 update with a redesigned Mi Cloud UI and a couple of bug fixes to go with. Below is the changelog attached to MIUI 10.4.8.0.PGGCNXM.

– Redesigned the page for managing cloud storage
– Redesigned the start page of Xiaomi Cloud
– Redesigned the start page of Xiaomi Cloud
– Start page banner was linked to a wrong page
– Find device couldn’t find devices when GPS was turned off

The previous Redmi Note 8 Pro software update was released a few weeks ago and it came with improved system security, stability, and performance.

We also expect the same improvements as part of the incoming update for the Note 8 Pro, but we still haven’t verified the security patch level included. Hopefully, it’s the latest one from September 2019.

Tech has been my playground for over a decade. While the Android journey began early, it truly took flight with the revolutionary Lollipop update. Since then, it's been a parade of Android devices (with a sprinkle of iOS), culminating in a mostly happy marriage with Google's smart home ecosystem. Expect insightful articles and explorations of the ever-evolving world of Android and Google products coupled with occasional rants on the Nest smart home ecosystem.
