You heard it! YouTube is going to pull the plug on the built-in messaging feature in the coming month, i.e. September 2019.
It was back in 2017, when the video-sharing giant introduced the ability to share videos directly via Message first for its mobile app, followed by the Web client. With Message, a click/tap on the Share button on videos gives YouTube users the option to share as well as chat about a video with their contacts in YouTube itself.
Meaning, faster and easier video sharing.
But going by the latest announcement made at YouTube help, after September 18, 2019, YouTube users – on platforms namely Android, iOS and web – will no longer be able to share videos directly via Message on YouTube. The official feature page (Message friends on YouTube) now reads:
After September 18th, you’ll no longer be able to send messages directly on YouTube. Some parts of this feature may go away before this date, such as sharing a video as a message.
The announcement post also states while direct messaging will be terminated, one can still share videos by sharing a link through different social network channels like Whatsapp, Twitter and other.
Go to the video watch page on any device
Click “Share”
Click on the “social network icon” from which you want to share a video
Other than the announcement, many of now should already be getting a notification pop-up regarding the feature termination in YouTube app, as can be seen in the image below:
So bye bye Messages on YouTube.
