Vivo NEX 5G likely to sport a waterfall screen & tri-lens rear camera

Vivo NEX 5G likely to sport a waterfall screen & tri-lens rear camera

The Vivo NEX S was one of the first smartphones to adopt the then-brand-new in-display fingerprint scanning technology following its launch in June 2018. This came after the Chinese smartphone vendor pioneered the tech earlier in the year – tech that we see in nearly all flagships today.

The next Vivo NEX device followed in December 2018, the Vivo NEX Dual Display, another innovative design that looked more of experimental than a finished product. But we all know Vivo is no stranger to experimentation and apparently, something that is more of similar is in the pipes.

We know 5G is still in its infant days, but this isn’t stopping companies from throwing in their best efforts to make 5G capable smartphones. At the moment, the network is simply a hit and miss, but things should get better with time.

Rather than wait until things get better, Vivo wants to move with the 5G wave and mature with it and that’s great. The company is set to unveil a pair of 5G smartphones in the coming days, beginning with the Vivo iQOO Pro 5G on August 22, although this will probably be limited to China.

The second 5G phone will be in the Vivo NEX series. At this point, it’s unclear whether this will be a variant of the rumored Vivo NEX 3 or it’ll be a different phone altogether, but the former case looks more likely than the latter.

Despite the uncertainties, the latest reports suggest the Vivo NEX 5G will likely sport a waterfall screen design. An image of this design popped up online a while ago, pointing to what is an incredible “over 100%” screen-to-body ratio. However, this was in reference to the Vivo NEX 3.

Even better is that the company itself shared the design of the upcoming NEX smartphone. Through sketches, Vivo has basically confirmed that the next device will come with a waterfall screen and a tri-lens camera on the back.

Unlike the typical arrangement we see on most phones, the three lenses will be housed in a circular module that mimics the design of a watch face.

China Unicom had previously confirmed that the Vivo NEX 5G will be available for purchase during the month of September, but there was no specific date. Going by the latest developments, though, it’s likely that Vivo NEX 5G may show up at the upcoming IFA 2019 in Berlin, Germany.

As if clearing any doubts regarding the Vivo NEX 5G, a screengrab showing the 5G icon has been shared on Weibo by the General Manager of Vivo Products, who has basically confirmed the device is ready.

Assuming the stage is all set for the Vivo NEX 5G to arrive, we are likely to see more details of the phone, including the final design, specs, and features to expect when it arrives. We will keep an eye on the developments and bring you the latest news.
